The most useful way to compare CBD softgels is by the numbers on the label: milligrams per softgel, which cannabinoids it contains, how many come in the bottle, price per milligram, the ingredient list, the spectrum and a published lab report for the batch. No single softgel suits every buyer, so this guide sets out what to check and then gives the figures for Canna River's four softgels. Each one holds 100 mg of cannabinoids, comes 60 to a bottle and costs $70, which works out to $1.17 per softgel and 1.17 cents per milligram.
What to compare in a CBD softgel
| What to check | What it tells you | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Milligrams per softgel | How much of each cannabinoid is in one softgel | Label or product page |
| Cannabinoids | CBD alone, or CBD with CBN, CBG or others | Label |
| Count | Number of softgels, which sets the total milligrams in the bottle | Label |
| Price per softgel and per mg | Price divided by the count, and price divided by total milligrams | Your own maths |
| Shell material | Whether the shell uses gelatin, which is animal-derived, or plant ingredients such as starch | Ingredient list |
| Carrier oil | The oil the cannabinoids are dissolved in, such as MCT oil | Ingredient list |
| Spectrum | Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum or isolate, and whether THC is included | Label or product page |
| Lab report | An independent test of the batch you're buying | Product page or the brand's COA library |
Per-milligram price is the fairest comparison across brands, because softgel strengths vary. When a softgel combines cannabinoids, decide whether you're comparing the cost of CBD alone or of all the cannabinoids together.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CBD Classic Softgels | 100 mg CBD | 6,000 mg CBD | $70 | $1.17 | 1.17¢ |
| CBD + CBN + CBG Softgels | 50 mg CBD + 25 mg CBN + 25 mg CBG | 3,000 mg CBD + 1,500 mg CBN + 1,500 mg CBG | $70 | $1.17 | 1.17¢ |
| CBD + CBN Softgels | 50 mg CBD + 50 mg CBN | 3,000 mg CBD + 3,000 mg CBN | $70 | $1.17 | 1.17¢ |
| CBD + CBG Softgels | 50 mg CBD + 50 mg CBG | 3,000 mg CBD + 3,000 mg CBG | $70 | $1.17 | 1.17¢ |
Cents per mg counts all the cannabinoids in the softgel. Counting CBD alone, the three blends work out to 2.33 cents per mg of CBD, because half of each softgel's 100 mg is CBN, CBG or both. For what sets these compounds apart chemically, see CBD vs CBN vs CBG vs CBC.
Ingredients: fill and shell
All four softgels use MCT oil as the carrier and hemp distillate as the CBD source. The blends add single-cannabinoid isolates.
- CBD Classic Softgels: MCT Oil, Broad Spectrum Distillate, Tapioca Starch, Vegetable Glycerin, Purified Water.
- CBD + CBN + CBG Softgels: MCT Oil, Broad Spectrum Distillate, CBN Isolate, CBG Isolate, Tapioca Starch, Vegetable Glycerin, Purified Water.
- CBD + CBN Softgels: MCT Oil, Broad Spectrum Distillate, CBN Isolate, Tapioca Starch, Vegetable Glycerin, Purified Water.
- CBD + CBG Softgels: MCT Oil, Broad Spectrum Distillate, CBG Isolate, Tapioca Starch, Vegetable Glycerin, Purified Water.
The Full Spectrum versions have the same lists, with Full Spectrum Distillate in place of Broad Spectrum Distillate. No gelatin appears on any list, and the product pages state that Canna River softgels are made with plant-based ingredients only. The hemp is non-GMO and grown in the United States. Each listing gives a volume of 0.5 mL per softgel: 200 mg CBD per mL for Classic and 100 mg CBD per mL for the three blends.
Broad Spectrum or Full Spectrum
Every softgel comes in two versions at the same $70 price. Broad Spectrum (Non-THC) is made with Broad Spectrum Distillate. Full Spectrum (Contains THC) is made with Full Spectrum Distillate, and the product pages list it at 2 mg delta-9 THC per softgel on top of the amounts in the table.
How to find the lab report
Every batch is tested by an independent third-party laboratory before it ships. On each product page, the Product Documentation panel lists the batch numbers for the version you select, with a View Report link for each. The same reports are collected under "Softgels" in the Canna River COA library. For more on how testing works, see Is Canna River CBD Lab Tested?
